I said there would only be ONE more Tozer post. I lied. The chapters we read this week were so stinkin’ good that they will likely make their way into at least two posts this week. Sorry for lying to you. :)
Today, I would like to talk about love.
If nothing in us can win Thy love, nothing in the universe can prevent Thee from loving us. Thy love is uncaused and undeserved. Thou are Thyself the reason for the love wherewith we are loved. Help us to believe the intensity, the eternity of the love that has found us. Then love will cast out fear; and our troubled hearts will be at peace, trusting not in what we are but in what Thou has declared thyself to be. Amen. (A. W. Tozer, Knowledge of the Holy)
Just last night I was talking to someone who said that they were sure they had messed up too much for God to love them. That, my friends, is a lie. A big fat terrible lie. Never believe it. Not for a moment. When you feel that is the truth, kick Satan in the face by refusing to accept it. GOD IS LOVE. That is why He loves us, because it is His character to love us. Never ever could we earn it. Never ever could we walk, or even run, away from it. It is absolutely unlike any earthly love we have experienced or will experience. It goes infinitely beyond all other expressions of love. Never can we comprehend it, but if we can grasp the truth of this, even slightly… It changes everything for us. It casts out fear. It brings peace. It gives us identity in Jesus.
We must always pray for clearer vision of His love for ourselves, and for the vision of those who have not yet seen it or who can not see it today… those who are trying to run… those who are believing the lies.
GOD IS LOVE. It is so easy to say those words. It is much harder to understand the depth of their meaning. But learning to is a beautiful journey. If we have seen some of the what God’s love is… If we have a beginning of an understanding of it…
… by reaching toward the star the child may call attention to it and even idicate the direction one must look to see it. So, as I stretch my heart toward the high, shilling love of God, someone who has not before known about it may be encouraged to look up and have hope. (A. W. Tozer, Knowledge of the Holy)
… we must continually gaze at his love and grasp for it… Talk about it. Try to describe it. Try to communicate to others what the LOVE of God has done to transform our lives and hearts. Maybe, though our words are not enough to capture the depth of the truth of His Love, it can point people to Him and to entering the journey of meeting His Love themselves.
God does not love populations, He loves people. He loves not masses, but men. He loves us all with a mighty love that has no beginning and can have no end. (A. W. Tozer, Knowledge of the Holy)
So, cheesy and overly simplistic as these words sound I feel compelled today to remind you…
GOD, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth…
(And there is NOTHING you can ever do to change that!)
